24 March 2004 ... New York, NY ... The critically-acclaimed theatre company from Washington D.C., feeT oF claY, has relocated to New York City as Firebrand Theory, and is mounting its first show in residency at the Gene Frankel Theatre.
RomAntic aGE uses archetypal characters to illustrate the lost, angry and fantastic crisis of Narrator, who is suffering a deluge of personal attacks by life -- first, he witnessed a death, then was betrayed by his wife and now his visions and dreams turn into real-life encounters with messengers not of this time, nor of this world. The verses of poet and artist William Blake provide the vision of this gothic journey.
Michael Scott-Price and Jaime Robert Carrillo are the company Artistic Directors. They established feeT oF ClaY in D.C., which became a highly respected non-profit theatre. The Review called the contribution "precious, because it is rare" and The City Paper stated that feeT oF claY "left a respectable scorch mark on the current theatre scene." Aisle Say noted that they are "a company willing to take risks."
The company moved from D.C. to N.Y.C. to participate in and engage the city’s broadminded theatre community. "We believe that theatre is a powerful device which moves belief into action, and no matter what, yields a beautiful mix of celebration, unrest and adventure," states Scott-Price. "Our seasons will have no boundaries. We will present classical or contemporary or experimental in traditional or nontraditional staging. We will revive, adapt and create. And we believe New York, as it has thus far, will both support and challenge us to do our best," adds Carrillo.
Firebrand Theory is the first resident company at the newly remodeled Gene Frankel Theatre. Of the invitation to the space, Mr. Frankel said, "I have a great appreciation for their work."
RomAntic aGE is a confirmed performance at both the Winnipeg and Minnesota Fringe Festivals this year.
RomAntic aGE is written and directed by Michael Scott-Price. It is choreographed by saar harari. Brian Patrick designed the sound, Danielle Colburn designed lighting, Erica Hemminger developed the set and Emanuele Lugli created costumes.
